Day Nine...
Hanley Denning founded Safe Passage ten years ago. She was an educator in the United States and was studying Spanish in Antigua, Guatemala. As Hanley once told the story to me, she had a friend, whom was a nun, that convinced Hanley to go with her to visit inner city Guatemala and its poorest of the poor. It was here that Hanley set her eyes on the most horrific sight she had ever seen, people sifting through the garbage dump's trash to exist. Hanley said later, when she looked back upon that day, she realized her friend had taken her there for a reason. She knew Hanley would do something.
Do something she did! She sold all of her belongings that sat in storage in the United States, which totaled around $5,000, and began the non-profit, Safe Passage (Camino Seguro). She began by paying for the fees and supplies to send a handful of children to public school, assisted them with their homework and gave them a healthy meal once a day. Now, only ten years later, Safe Passage serves over 550 of the children and families that live near the Guatemala City garbage dump. I cannot begin to blog about every single part of Safe Passage that is fabulous. However, I will touch on a few of my top favorites in the next couple days. Tonight I am paying tribute to Hanley Denning, whom is no longer with us due to a tragic circumstance. I was fortunate to have met her, work with her and laugh with her (she had such a great laugh!). She believed in all of us and each of our unique ability to help her help these children and families. Her death is still unimaginable, but it also has brought forth a new determination which is to never let her vision fade. For those whom will never have the oppotunity to meet Hanley, you still may by learning more about Safe Passage and becoming involved. We need you!

Day Seven...
This is becoming a bit difficult, blogging every day. Definitely a change of pace for myself and a commitment that always seems to linger until the last possible moment of the day.
Tonight I am going to share some cherry blossom photos I took this spring. I'm not kidding when I say these blossoms are real. I even think they look fake. And, they are pretty much straight out of the camera. I only adjusted the levels a tiny bit to make the images pop.
Anyway, it just so happened to be the perfect night. Thanks to Michelle, whom made a great assistant!

Day Six...
I almost missed this evening. I know I am pretty lame by not posting photos in the past couple days but this girl has been busy doing the following things:
1. Porterhouse Productions concert in Sam & Abby's backyard = AWESOME!
2. Nate & Karley: We need to behave next time we are out cruising on our bikes! (That
would be Nate and Beth, Karley was just along for the entertainment, I think!)
3. Lost wallet. Anyone seen it?
4. Powerwashed my parents' pontoon boat and mowed their lawn = 2.5 hour nap.
5. Laundry washed.
6. Back home trying to make deadline on my challenge.
Photos tomorrow. I promise. I have a boatload of them!
